Any advice for a packrat to be less packrat-ish?

I have too many things. Alot of which I think I should keep, but are taking up alot of room. I need advice from non-packrats. How do you know what to keep %26amp; not --in female prespective?

I have lots of old high school/chidhood pictures %26amp; albums, yearbooks, extra binders %26amp; folders, a couple expensive textbooks with very good material I would like to reference on, old cds, alot of makeup samples thats really good, a couple piggy banks, shoe boxes to make it easier to move when if I do, %26amp; alot of old clothes -- mostly keep because I dont have much $ to buy new ones, which clothes to keep tho %26amp; shoes?

The more details the better the advice! thanks!!

where to start. first off, if you haven't used/thought of something in a yr....get rid of it. if you forgot you even had it, get rid of it. the clothes that don't fit....but you know they will someday...get rid of them-you'll want new things. shoe boxes to move if you do....get rid of them. childhood pics and memories....will you still have the memories if you don't have the physical things? if so, get rid of them. if sounds harsh, but once you have done "the cleansing" it will all pay off. you can sell most things, and afford things you've wanted. even if you're keeping photos, notes, etc---get organized about it. if you really want to keep them, you want to know where everything is. invest in totes-and actually label them. put your books on display....get picture albums/boxes for those old photos. throw all make up samples in one of those shoe boxes-or get rid of them. it will take time and i wish you luck. just remember, if you're not using it, but keeping it, someone else could be in need of it.

i say---watch clean sweep. good luck
Reply:Pictures you want to keep and yearbooks. Organize them in albums. Textbooks, ask your local college or highschool or whatever grade level it may be, donate them. Students would love you for that.

Personally, I would sell my items. If you know someone that has an ebay store, ask them to sell it for you. Better yet, check your area (check phone book), for an ebay store, and they will sell it for you.

Clothes:

Rule of thumb here, if you don't wear it in one years time, then get rid of it. You probably won't wear it again. Give to local charities. You can always write it off on your taxes.

Depending on where you are located, I could help you sell your items.

I have an Ebay store and help many friends make lots of money of items they no longer use.
