What’s better, sentimental gifts or material gifts and why?

Hello there,

Mr. Deal back to spread some more Christmas cheer and ready to challenge all you super-smart answerers.

When it comes to presents is it the sentimental presents that make you happy or are you more the material type?

Mr. Deal loves nothing more than a nice family photo in a beautiful frame to hang on the wall. Then again, my running shoes are looking quite worn down. It's just too hard to decide.

I'll leave it up to you smart fellows out there. Sentimental or material and why?

If you think of something you wouldn't mind giving (or receiving!) check out my site for some great deals http://nz.lifestyle.yahoo.com/christmasc...

Merry Christmas to all.

What’s better, sentimental gifts or material gifts and why?
Hola:

A sentimental gift can be a material gift as well . Wether you buy it or not in any case it is a material gift because its made of materia not of thoughts or something unmaterial elements which can not be touched.

Just make a gift even if it is not expensive..

Reply:I would prefer sentimental.

Material gifts do not have as much significance and importance to people as sentimental ones. Photos rekindle memories shared probably even decades ago, and it brings joy and warmth to people as they remember the past.

Sentimental gifts also are more likely to be remembered as a present. A family heirloom is much more precious and more valuable to a person than a pair of running shoes bought from a shop. Or, if something was made by a friend or family member that has passed away, it makes the gift even more invaluable.

Although material gifts can be cheaper, sentimental gifts can be more costly but will probably last far more years than the material gifts.
Reply:Sentimental by far is the best. Had a guy I worked with said he told his wife for Christmas he didn't want nothing but memories. Said if you get a shirt, or tie those kind of gifts over time would forget who gave it him, or even when he got it.

Ever since I will think hard of what to give people, try to make it sentimental and to mean something. Tend to get irritated when I hear people say something isn't practical. Hell if I wanted to give someone something practical give them a roll of toilet paper.

I always try to give my wife a photograph, have a picture, will edit it, have it printed to a larger size. Then frame it. I get a lot of comfort when I look and see pictures of family, pets, or places we went on vacation hanging on the wall.
Reply:i am more of a material girl. but wat really matters is to bring ur family together and just have a wonderful time. but i am spoiled and sometimes greedy but i think you should be more sentimental give a great speech to ur family about wat christmas is really about =]]
Reply:Combine both, the gift should have an emotional meaning (like to remember us of someone), but also it shouldn't be the most cheap thing, cause if it is the person would think that you don't want spent money for him/her.
Reply:For me sentimental gifts are better, because the material is gone too soon, the sentimental stay in people's mind for the rest of their life. Merry Christmas to you and all the members of your family.
Reply:For me sentimental gifts are better. Material things will get worn, lost, thrown out etc. where as sentimental gifts will last forever. That is just my opinion.
Reply:I'm personally more of a material girl. I like things like clothes, make-up, music that sort of thing. A friend once gave me some CDs along with a mix-CD that he made for me with his own designed cover art as well. So that was a nice mix of material (CDs which he bought and I liked) plus sentimental (CDs which he made containing songs that I liked).
Reply:i prefer sentimental. they seem like the giver really thought about what to give u instead of picking up something that u could probably never use. material gifts r nice but sentimental gifts last a lifetime
Reply:While it's great to wake up to all the things on your wish list, in the long run you would value sentimental gifts more. You would soon go off the latest clothes or cd that you wanted because it was fashionable at the time. Photos last forever and you will never lose interest in it.
Reply:Sentimental gifts have a longer lasting effect. But a material gift may be much appreciated if there is a necessity for the item.

Hope it helps!
