Killer CROCS - does the way the have be banned in hospitals make sense?

I am not saying they should not be banned HOWEVER--Staff have been told to go and by ANY make of shoe THEREFORE all/ any could be worse than the croc! A panic responce could result in more accidents!.

STATEMENT BY CROCS

There are a number of factors that contribute to the build-up of static electricity including temperature, humidity, flooring applications, types of material and the nature of the contact. It is unlikely that any one factor is the sole cause of any static electricity problems. We know of no reason that Crocs would be any more susceptible to static electricity than shoes such as sneakers and other types of footwear worn by medical professionals. Medical employees are one of many valued constituencies at Crocs and we will continue to ensure that we are fully addressing the needs of our customers and the environments in which they wear our products.”

Killer CROCS - does the way the have be banned in hospitals make sense?
Strange. They have been worn by healthcare professionals for years.
Reply:Why would anyonewant to wear them in a hospital anyway ?(except in theatres and maybe outpatients) A hospital ward is subject to spills and splatters of urine, faeces, vomit and blood, crocs are of little use (with their little holes) are of no use to a nurse, uness she has a fetish for urine soaked feet!
Reply:They are ugly and should be banned from all public places on grounds of taste.
Reply:I work on acute mental health ward and we are not allowed to wear open toed shoes, it's a safety measure for us.
Reply:they just don't want them wearing holy shoes, it's unsanitary. But they are no different than other rubber shoes. Crocs offend alot of people, who don't need to buy them. I love mine, but i don't work in a hospital either.
Reply:People who wear crocs look like dumbarses.
Reply:Aphrodite - they have been making 'professional' ones for ages with totally enclosed fronts.

I don't get your question really. They are shoes - big deal!

How do I make a 3D tree?

I have this class project where I have to decorate a shoe box like a state you chose. I chose New Jersey, and I hear there are many trees there. How do I make a little tree thing to put on the shoe box? Well, I got the leaves thing handled out, but how would I make the branches and trunk. Also, I need to make flowers and stuff, so any tips on how to make that? But I don't want to use a material that's heavy like clay or something, and no paper please. Thanks.

How do I make a 3D tree?
I would use a piece of a brown paper bag (size depending on the size of your "tree"). First, crumple it until it is soft, then twist it into a tree shape, tearing parts away (but not off completely) to twist into branches. You wouldn't need to paint it (its already brown!), it would have a bark-ish texture (from the twisting), and it will be relatively sturdy, but considerably lighter than, say, clay. As for the flowers, you could try gluing on beads... or you could use glitter glue...hee hee, sparkly...

Cleaning nike tennis shoes?

I have a pair of all white nike athletic shoes that have started to get pretty dirty. They are made out of a nylon-like material. Being that they are all white, is there a product that I could use that would be safe to wash them with? Is it safe just to throw them in the washing machine or will they come apart?

Cleaning nike tennis shoes?
I have had several pairs like you describe and I just throw mine in the washing machine with a load of towels. Don't put them in the dryer. Hang them outside to dry or leave them on top of the dryer overnight. You might want to stuff them with newspaper to help re-shape them while drying.
Reply:I clean mine with Lysol wipes and dry them afterwards with a rag. If there are tough stains I use magic eraser.
Reply:i also have a pair of white nikes...

it had some fabric like material on them so there was no way to clean them like i normally do...

i threw them in the washer they came out clean but they look kinda wrinkely now...

i just threw them in with towels.

Any advice for egg drop project?

Project Criteria: The size of a shoe box. ~The protection for the egg must be engineered, not just filled with stuff.~No type of packing material will be allowed. This includes but may not be limited to such items as : bubble wrap, cotton balls, tissue , styrofoam pellets, cronstarch pellets, pillows, stuffed animals, shaving cream, paper, ballons or egg crate foam. No type of food may be used as packing material. This includes : jello, marshmallow, popcorn, or peanut butter,~ No wooden or metal boxes~No parachutes or helium filled balloons will be allowed~The egg will be provided at the time of the drop which you will then have to insert it into your project~ No boxes will be accepted that are preloaded with an egg. And it must have physics behind the design. Including Newtons laws of motion, terminal velocity, momentum, and gravity.

Thanks for the help ahead of time.

Any advice for egg drop project?
This is a lot more stringent than when I did mine, so I only have a few suggestions.

1. Make sure one part of the device is heavier than the rest, so you can control how the device lands (I used a film container filled with change)

2. The closer to the top of the device the egg is, the less effect impulse will have on the egg. (more impulse will lessen the pressure of the drop)

3. Make sure the egg is vertical when it lands (eggshell is stronger vertically than horizontally)

4. Try to use something with a sturdy outer frame, so the frame will absorb the impact instead of the egg (mybrother used a soup can, and it worked amazingly well)

Hope this helps, enjoy.
Reply:What about spring?

You can suspend the egg on a spring or a number of springs inside the box..

Another idea : are you allowed to tie a rope to the box. You can then tie the other end of the rope to a counter weight through a pulley.
Reply:I would use a weight to control the balance of the drop, and small bungee cords or rubber bands to control the shock of the impact.

The more you can contour to the egg the better but I think they are trying to get away from a contour type protection.

But a shock absorbing carrier is what you need.
Reply:never forget the triangle it will win just use a bunch of triangles. layer the bottom with pyramids, and around where the egg will go, then do the top like the bottom.

make a harness for the egg out of string, you can crochet it or use a hair net and tie it shut, then radiating from that, loop rubber bands and connect them to the outer edges of the shoebox using holes in the shoebox and toothpics.

Egg drop project?
I did this in college and made little accordion type springs out of paper and put them all over the egg. Then enclosed it. Hope that helps. Sorry no physics.
Reply:I've done this before too. I did a two pronged approach the

first order of business was to slow the descent of the egg by increasing the cross sectional area of the device to increase wind resistance. I use a series of "radial" wings which imparted a spin to the project using some of the energy that otherwise would be accelerating toward the ground. Another project used glider style wings to accomplish the same and was slightly more successful than mine at slowing the descent. Both methods are designed to lower terminal velocity be reducing the acceleration due to gravity into horizontal acceleration.

The second is to find a way to cushion the impact. I used a hanging device which operated on rubber bands in all directions from the egg. By putting bands in all directions I prevented violent backlash (for every action there is an equal and opposite reaction) that was prevalent in other sling designs. I also created a honeycomb crush zone on the bottom on the box, my box always landed the same way up because of the rotary wings.

The rubber bands will eventually stop the egg as the oscillation decays naturally as gravity slowly overcomes the momentum.
Reply:If the sides of the box are re-inforced with ice cream sticks, you could use a series of elastic bands with medium amount of tension so that the egg is essentually encased in the bands acting as shock absorber.
Reply:use springs....attach them carefully..inside the box.
Reply:I'd say there are probably 2 classes of designs you could go with: something that falls slowly or something that absorbs alot of the impact.

The first category of designs include things like building a glider that will glide down to the ground, or something with a propeller mounted on top so that the blades will be spun by the relative upward air flow while the project is falling- if you've ever seen a pine-cone seed spiral slowly down to the ground, you'll understand why this design will work very well.

A previous poster suggested using springs, and that falls into the second class of designs. It's a good idea, but I think it would probably be easier to do something with, say, rubber bands. If you design your box in such a way that the egg would just be suspended in a harness or something like that attached to the sides of the box with rubber bands, a lot of the shock will be absorbed and protect the egg from the imapct.

In general, keep in mind that the terminal velocity of a heavy object is dependent on it's cross-sectional area - the wider the better, the less mass the better. Good luck!
Reply:I did this in 6th grade it was pretty fun...but i dont remember what the winning one was built with...........use a plastic bag from the grocery store as a parachute
Reply:Poke one hole on two sides of the box. Use a cut piece of panty hose, tie one end of the hose and put it through one of the holes, when you get your egg, pull it tight and insert the hose through the other side of the box and tie it off. Don't make the holes too big or your knots will fall into the box on impact.

Hope this helps

Please help me with egg drop project?
Depending on the height of the drop the velocity on impact could be the terminal velocity so your package should be light and as non aerodynamic that is allowed. The egg will be traveling at the same velocity as the box when the box makes impact so it will have momentum mv but force on the egg will be mv/dt where dt is the time over which the egg decelerates. So the egg needs to beging decelerate when the box makes impact.

A frame with a "nest" to hold the egg in the center, made of thin bendable wire or thread stiffened with glue, that will deform on impact and absorb the shock might work.

Suspending the egg with rubber bands or strips of cloth attached to the box also might fit the rules.
Reply:hmmm, oatmeal works best, but that's food.

How about something with springs?

Hep B info. and ssi benefits of income question?

It is about time to tell people how serious Hep B is. You can contract hep b from body fluid and blood. Hep b can survive up to seven days on any surface. Life changes completeley after you contract it. The problem is the SSI and social care are in denial because they dont want to pay supplemental income (disability) to help the ones that are infected. Now, there are cases like restaurant employee passed hep b to so many customers and like a said body fluid can pass. People needs to be aware of it and support does who unfortunately contracted it. It is a big lie what they say about contracting from sexual relationship. I contracted doing Martial Arts or construction work. Martial Arts I did not have shoes on. Construction passing tools and getting tools from others as touching the same materials and tools.

Question: why? ssi does not approve disability for those infected so they can treat themselves instead of having to expose themselves to others at work.

Hep B info. and ssi benefits of income question?
I got hep b at some point in my life - and I don't know how I got it. But - that was 20 years ago and it hasn't affected me at all - at least so far.

What are the shoes shown in the "Teacher's Pet" episode of "That's So Raven"?

Pretty specific question, I know. But if you are at all familiar with "That's So Raven" on the Disney Channel, I need your help. It was a recent episode called "Teacher's Pet" and Candace Cameron Bure (DJ from Full House) played a young, hip teacher at Raven's school.

Well, Raven says something like, "Are you on fire, cause those shoes are hot!" And then we see the shoes, a sort of purplish and pink mary jane. Kind of looks like it was made of felt, or some other cloth material.

I think they are very cute and I'd like to know what brand they are and where I can get some too! Thanks for the answers!

What shoes should I wear with athletic thigh highs?

What shoes should one wear with athletic thigh highs? They are white with stripes (really long athletic tube socks). I'd like to wear them with a knit mini-skirt (sweatshirt fleece material). I'm kind of a stocky girl (like I'm trim, but genetically stocky) so please nothing TOO dainty for my feet. Also I am in my late 20's so nothing juvenile as the socks are already pushing it for age-appropriateness. I was thinking classic Pumas?

What shoes should I wear to the wedding?

Im going to my friends' wedding. My dress is knee length, a turqoise, blue, white and black combo...it has a large swirl type pattern with the colors. It has a high waist and flows away from the body. Its silky material and spaghetti straps which I am going to wear a cardigan over. The waist band part is black so I want to wear black shoes. I am not sure if i should wear plain black ballet flats or black strappy high heels?? I think the heels make it look a little skanky--but the flats make it too casual...im not sure.

What shoes should I wear to the wedding?
wear a pair of peep toe heels. the flats will make your legs look short, especially with a dress, and are not dressy enough.. and the strappy ones arent flattering or in style. here are a few links...

dont be afraid to spend a little extra on a nice pair of shoes. its totally worth it!!! especially when it comes to a pair of classy black pumps!! hope this helped!!
Reply:High heels for sure......sometimes its not the shoes that make a women look "skanky" it is how she carries herself

...with that said, find a shoe with a low but skinny heel so that you feel comfortable. It should be open toe, in black or even turquoise with an embellishment on it (like rhinestones) to make you look even more elegant.

Wear natural looking makeup with a little light blue eyeshadow and wear your hair up neatly (again, to add elegance to the look)......smile and have a great time.
Reply:No no.. there are some really nice dressy flat shoes in silk at Payless Shoes for reasonable prices...About the black strappy high heel, I do not know about that.. The plain black high heel shoes would work okay too, while you are it, I think it's most important thing to wear something really comfortable, maybe a black low heel shoes- because you might stand up lot of times at the wedding. Have you ever thought about it..
Reply:Heels for sure. If you go with a pump (thick heel) rather than a pair of stilettos, you should not look the least bit skanky. Any of the big shoe websites (shoes.com, zappos.com, etc.) have a search by color function for shoes. You can match any one of the colors in your dress to a classy pair of shoes at those sites.
Reply:Depends. Are you going to walk around and dance a lot? In that case, flats might be more comfortable. But the flats probably should be those glossy kinds. Strappy high heels work if their thin heels and aren't one of those lace up types (meaning they lace around your legs).
Reply:There are some black heels that aren't "hooker heels" but still look fairly dressy. I am wearing some now actually.

Why do transsexuals strive to emulate the female/male form?

As you all probably know. I was born a girl but I have a male gender identity; however, this question has always fascinated me.

This is a response from a male to female transsexual I know.

"Hum…while this may seem to be a straight forward question, in reality its not. I could simply say that since I’m transsexual that it is simply my true self being expressed, but it’s more complex than that. Yes as one level it is because I’m transsexual, but I also truly enjoy all the choices I have when I dress as a women. The assortment of colors is much wider, the number of different styles is wonderful, the selection of different materials is simply great and that’s just for clothes. The variety of shoes available is wonderful too, the colors, the heel heights, boots, sandals, mules, pumps, etc. are simply not even choices you have in men’s clothing.

For me at least there is also the fit of the clothing. I’ve always been extremely small for a man, which has never bothered me".

Why do transsexuals strive to emulate the female/male form?
I think the drive to change my body is to be recognized socially as the woman I am. It has nothing thing to do with clothing just the uncomfortable feeling of the incorrectness of my body to who I am. When I was younger I yearned to be a girl to wear the clothing I thought of as being more comfortable, but as I grew up I also wished to be able to get married and become a mother. I did become a father to a son, but wasn't allowed to be near the child as he grew up by his mother. Her reason I still don't understand as I hadn't come out as a TS at that time.

As one Answerer said, I couldn't go back to living as a man or in the male role as I have lived as a woman and pretending to be a man just wasn't right for me to be happy. I have been asked, "What would you do if they won't let you have SRS?" I said, "I probably would just continue to live as a woman, if I went back to living as a guy, I would probably be dead from suicide within six months."

I am a woman and I want and NEED to be recognized as such!
Reply:Dear Ada Madrina,

OK... I suppose that is one aspect of what drives a true gender dysphoric. but only one.

But I think a more through explanation is that a gender dysphoric will go to the extremes needed, to be accepted by the people around them, as they see themselves.

Or as a fried used to say:

"Every morning I stop at McDonald's for my coffee on the way to work.. After years of hearing that snot nosed kid calling me sir I was Finlay called Ma'am.For the first time last month... Everyone at work spent the day asking what was going on that I was so happy."

Hugs,

PennyAnn
Reply:Perhaps could be vice versa; this is a very facinating question. I guess someones one feels trapped and feels better if he/she was the other gender. I did a study on this in psychology but this was long ago. However, I'm tempted to take out my book and re-read it. Take care :)
Reply:Perhaps it has to do with 2 things. One, it has do with with the fact that we want people to see us for our gender. So as a result we choose our clothing according.

Two, Your friends answers.

As far as transition goes, it really just has to do with becoming you. All I know for sure is this, there is no way i could live pretending to be male and there no way that would be happy about have a male body. It would all just feel backwards. Why do I want to have a female body? Well I am female. Perhaps the answer is as simple as that.
Reply:It's simply a mind blowing experience everytime I dress up like a woman. Especially if I am being intimate with another guy. It's more than just some type of fetish. It's a deeply emotional and spiritual experience. I don't do this everyday but I want to with every fabric of my being. This would mean I am not "dressing up" but am yearning to be a woman from the recesses of my soul!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Reply:These days everyone who crosslives even just on weekends calls themselves transsexuals.....the word actually has a very specific meaning. If you are not driven to bring your body into congruence with your mind you are not transsexual. In the past ten years I've had to start calling this "classic" transsexuality because of the transgenders who never take hormones, never change their bodies but still live as the opposite sex full or part time who call themselves transsexuals and will actually try to destroy your life if you disagree with them.

In your example, I'd say that was not a transsexual woman you were talking about because it isn't about clothes. Actual transsexuals are aware of what is going one within themselves from very early in childhood. Gender identity is hardwired into the central nervous system and there are significant and measurable differences between male and female CNSs that are not hormonally driven. The final truth of the John/Joan case Money built his career on put the last nail in the nature-nurture debate.

Where can I buy new thongs for my ankle-tie sandals?

the thongs (the thin strips of leather) that go round and up the leg on one of my favourite pairs of sandals snapped. Is it possible to buy the material (thin leather thonging I suppose its called) to fix this? My local shoe repairer doesn't have any. Its actually probably artifical leather but real or artificial should be ok.

Where can I buy new thongs for my ankle-tie sandals?
Go into any shoe shop and ask for laces for deck shoes. They are, hopefully, what you're looking for, but very probably they'll be brown, you'll have to stain/dye it to match your shoes if they're not brown.

Dirtee shoes?

everytime i buy a nice pair of shoes, my feet sweat and make them dirty. so now i have foot prints on my nice bebe sport high heels. how do i make them go away. the material is like foamish

Dirtee shoes?
In the summer time I go and buy the cheap flip-flops(foam) from target. They get dirty very quick so i take a sponge w/ a scrubby side on it and dish soap and scrub away and I mean scrub. Or, if it's really bad spray it w/ some king of cleaning spray and then scrub.
Reply:pls tell me if you find out i really need that too
Reply:To Nina: like it's never happened to you?
Reply:It really doesnt matter because whenever you are wearing the shoes...no one can see the dirty part of the shoe, so i wouldnt even worry about it!!

Shoes half a size too small?

I got Nike Air shoes as a gift and they r a bit too small. Obviously i cant exchange them now, but i was wondering if they can be stretched lengthwise, even though they are made of tough material?

Shoes half a size too small?
If you haven't really worn them, take them back. I am sure whoever paid for them would rather have you do that then to have them lay in the closet %26amp; no they won't stretch and if your still a teen your foot may grow even more in fact!
Reply:First of all, why can't you exchange them now? You have no idea where your friend purchased them? They should be happy to give you the name of the store.

I doubt very much that they can be stretched.

That is for leather, and even then it is not very satisfactory ... the shoes always feel a little small.
Reply:Maybe sell them on Ebay and buy another pair.
Reply:The manager at the Sporting Goods store here where I live just this week told me that Nike was the number one shoe for wearing down/out the fastest. Stretching them probably would not work. Why can't you exchange them? And if you can't, donate them to charity.
Reply:No, they will not stretch the way you need them to without extensive wearing and that could damage your foot. Try exchanging them anyway-a store might take them since you want to exchange and not refund. If not, try to sell them either online or at a local consignment store and buy the right size.

Can you use material items to make yourself feel better if your depressed?

I think im depending upon material items to make me depressed. Im 16 years old. I stopped going to school. I might go back next year though. All I do is sit at home all day in a pair of sweat pants and a shirt. Im always looking at shoes and earrings or something and wishing I had those. But the problem is that I have everything! But I WANT MORE! and I just feel depressed. Before it was eating when I was bored, now its thinking about material items. I weigh 253 pounds, and bought my dad bought me a 225 dollar treadmill. I still feel that I dont have nothing. I dont have friends, all I do is sit on the computer all day long. Between sitting online and walking 90 minutes a day to lose weight. Im a male obviously.

Whats wrong with me? My parents arent rich, they dont work, I have an ipod, desktop and laptop computer and nice clothes. Now I want a cell phone! and new jewerly. Fake jewerly obviously lol but still. I dont know if im spoiled or what.

Can you use material items to make yourself feel better if your depressed?
I hope you do go back to school.

Being picked on and judged is horrible, but you deserve to go to school. You deserve a chance to make yourself a career. You do.

Material items won't make you feel better if you're depressed. I fully expected to give you the advice that taking vitamin B12 (which is material) can make you feel a heck of a lot better if you have a deficiency, as I do as a vegetarian of 14 years now.

Okay, I know it's not easy when you don't have the support of friends, and being overweight, we look for something that will make us feel better now, not two years from now. It might be earrings, or a mobile phone, or a bag of chips. Who does not want to feel better about themselves now?

You ask what is wrong...

You not being at school my friend. Trust me, I did my fair share of skipping school when I was about year nine, and it made me feel worse about myself. It got harder and harder to just go back, and I felt bad. It was easier to do whatever I liked for the day instead, but I felt worse and worse.

I got caught out of course, and that was that. Back to school. It wasn't easy. I wasn't popular or skinny or sporty or perfect, but I did want to graduate and go to university, and I did. It's hard work. You will get depressed at times, but you deal with it, and you become a better person for having gone through the hardship.

As for wanting everything... well, maybe you should let yourself have what you want... when you can earn it for yourself. You can get a part-time job, and buy your own things. It will make you feel better about yourself. I know I did. I don't know how my brother got stuck on wanting hand-outs, but I worked for everything I have and paid my way through uni.

I've just gotten offered a new job in cancer research with a supervisor who is a surgeon, and my current boss threw a $10K payrise at me to persuade me to stay (mind you, I'm not being paid what I should be to begin with).

I... did an extra year in year 12 to get the extra maths to get into the uni course I wanted, I worked as a check-out chick for seven years as I studied, I've worked at the Hilton in a skirt which I hated, I quit a PhD for my mental health after working under a psychopath supervisor (my colleague is still on depression medication from that experience)...

Yes, you want more, but trust me, you don't really want earrings. You want to be happy, and leaving school won't help. I really do hope you tell yourself you're worth it to go back to school and make a go for yourself.

Don't be too hard on yourself. You can do what you want if you admit to yourself that you're worth it.
Reply:get mental help now, run dont pass go, just run for help. you are spoiled from having everything and not having to work for and having to wait until you earn what you want. i have chf and in and out of the hospital all the time, do not repeat do not let that stop you from going to school learning all you can even if you think it is dumb and stupid you will have that in jobs also just think of it as something in life you just have to do.

go luck please get some mental health.
Reply:I can somewhat relate. I'm a sixteen year-old male, and I also stopped going to school. I hated it there. Instead, I stared educating myself and I bypassed a whole grade level that way. But not only that, I started to become obsessed with material things, too. I was so bored that I would shop on eBay all day long and whenever I found something that was too expensive for me to purchase with my mom's credit card, I would get depressed and wonder what could have been.

The solution? Well, I still get depressed sometimes wondering what would have happened if my life would have went in the direction I was hoping. But I did figure out that by finding something else - something that couldn't be bought, that had to be achieved - I wouldn't feel so bad and lonely inside.

I now love to study in my spare time. Physics, to be exact. For some reason, whenever I learn a new atomic equation or contemplate the very real possibility of traveling through time, I know that everything else is so small and insufficient. After all, the man who dies with the most toys is, nonetheless, still dead. Peace.
Reply:Yeah. I wanted all those things but never got them at your age. My niece is going through the same thing. Advertising has a lot to answer for. Do something for someone and watch there facial expression when you tell them - that is better than any fake jewelery. Take care and good luck. XX
Reply:There are a few medications for severe social anxiety. My daughter is on one and it does help, to some degree, at least she is able to attend school. I have home-schooled her more than I care to tell, and that was because of her social anxiety. She was not able to walk inside a mall, it used to be so bad.

You may wish to see your family doctor about this. There is actually something called "school phobia" and it totally sucks. I know, since I had it as a teen. Walking around school feeling that all eyes are on you-- judging your appearance and so forth-- is no picnic. I ended up dropping out and getting my GED a year later.

Now I am on a medication which helps me to stop obsessing about what others may be thinking. Even though we know in our heads that people aren't thinking about us (they're too busy worrying about themselves, lol), it can be practically impossible to function outside in the real world when we have this problem.

Even though my daughter is medicated, she still has a fair amount of social anxiety, and if she wants to go, say, to the mall, she does much better if she takes a Xanax first. We are careful to monitor her use of Xanax, since one can develop a dependence on it, but once a month is not harmful, heh heh.

As for your desire (which seems to be turning into an obsession, lol) for material things, there is a quick cure. Volunteer at your local hospital or animal rescue or somthing like that. First you will need to address your anxiety, though; otherwise it will be too scary to volunteer.

I do soooo wish you the best of luck. I wish I'd gotten help as a teen, but my parents were pretty much in the dark about stuff like that. All the best to you. :)

If the media is not liberal then why are they not reporting the progress in Iraq?

Evidence of improvement in Iraq.

By Bill Crawford

An important step in stemming the violence in Iraq is to find a formula to share the country’s oil revenues fairly between the three main groups: Shiite, Sunnis, and Kurds. Iraq is preparing to take a step in the right direction by providing opportunities for foreign oil firms to invest in the country, thereby increasing its output and revenues:

The production-sharing agreements (PSAs) would allow oil giants to sign 30-year contracts for extracting Iraqi oil.

Under PSAs, the state retains legal ownership of its oil but gives a share of the profits to companies that invest in infrastructure and in operating the wells, pipelines and refineries.

The newspaper [the Independent] said that under the draft law, oil companies could recoup 60 to 70 per cent of revenue until initial costs had been recovered, which compares to around 40pc usually.

Along the same lines, Lt. General Graeme Lamb, Deputy Commander of Multinational Forces-Iraq, sees 2007 as the year that Iraq moves forward, and says he sees plenty of progress to base his optimism on:

Let me give you an example. I was out at Hit the other day, Ramadi. The battalion commander out there, young battalion commander — actually, I suppose he's not that young; he just looks it — had been in Ramadi two years before, had done a full year's tour. As far as he was concerned, he always just seemed to be going backwards. When I saw him the other day, as far as he was concerned, they were making huge progress.

Ramadi. Four months ago I don't think there was any policemen in the town. Seven hundred and ninety-one now.

They were shot at from a building. Two hundred policemen drawn together surrounded the building, cleared it. Now, that's just an example of some progress.

I then look at some of the economic issues. I look at the megawatts of power that are coming on line. I see some of the reconstruction programs that are going out. Now, that gives me a degree of optimism.

I see this prime minister. I see this government. I see the challenges they face, and I'm not trying to dismiss the difficulties or trying to give you some sort of political upbeat spin. I don't do optimism. I don't do pessimism. I just do realism as I see it. And I do spend a lot of time out here. I spend a lot of time out here. I got a feel for the Arabs.

So it's just the way I see it, and it's not sort of in effect trying to — I don't know — make something out of nothing. I think the situation here — you know, as someone once said — I think it was a field marshal of ours said things are never as good or as bad as you think they are. I just see these in fact at a point in turning.

Mosul and al Qaim are other areas where significant progress has been made over the past year. In Mosul, Iraqi police and army forces have brought law and order to a historically violent area:

“Yes, there is violence in this city. But, there is violence in American cities that have nearly two million people in their population as well,” said [Maj. Gen. Benjamin R.] Mixon.

Recognizing the similar levels of violence in a comparable city in America, Twitty paints an optimistic picture of the current state of Mosul and Ninewa Province.

“Amidst the turmoil and issues that persist in Iraq, there is a semblance of peace and normalcy in the north. Ninewa’s leadership works hard to provide its citizens security, build its economy, and implement programs that will continue to keep sectarian violence from the province,” said Twitty. “One thing we cannot do is attempt to put an American standard on any Iraqi city,” said Twitty. “We have to remember that this country lived under a dictator for more than 30 years. The major and significant difference between U.S. cities and Mosul is the use of improvised explosive devices, rocket-propelled grenades, and other military - grade weapons. Anti-Iraqi forces persist in their attacks, but the Iraqi security forces, consisting of the Iraqi Army, border patrol and police, continue to quell those attacks daily,” Twitty continued.

Al Qaim was frequently called the “Wild West,” but the Marines cleaned the area up in 2005, and the situation is improving daily:

Two years ago, the same streets were fraught with roadside bombs and snipers, and sellers and buyers stayed away. The area was considered too dangerous even for a quick tour by a U.S. general in his armored Humvee.

The Al Qaim region routinely was described as an out-of-control "wild west" where the Marines were fighting, with only limited success, to control the smuggling of insurgent fighters and weapons from Syria.

Today, Marines walk the downtown beat, chatting with residents, fielding their complaints, encouraging them to contact the Iraqi police if they suspect insurgent activity.

In a country studded with areas where the United States either has failed or had only limited progress toward stabilization, Husaybah and the surrounding Al Qaim region stand out as a success, officials said.

Unfortunately, the American people aren’t hearing about this, as Army medic Corporal Ignacio Garza observes:

Based on his experiences in Iraq, events there are not as bad as the news media make it seem, an Army medic from Adrian said.

Cpl. Ignacio Garza, a medic in the 1st Armored Division home on leave after serving in Iraq for six months, said the troops don’t watch television news for war updates because they think none of the networks show an accurate depiction of what’s happening. He said they ignore large parts of the country, including the Kurd-dominated north, that are stable.

In fact, if the mainstream media isn’t ignoring a story in Iraq they could just as easily be making one up. For the second time in six weeks, the Associated Press has put out a story from Iraq that isn’t backed by the facts:

The Associated Press has again put out an Iraq story detailing events that did not happen. This time, it involves an airstrike that, " killed a family of four during a firefight." However, according to the press desk of Multi-National Forces-Iraq, no air strike happened during that firefight, and MNF-I also reported that which six insurgents were killed by American troops in Baghdad on January 1. This is the second time in roughly six weeks that the AP has been caught fabricating events.

Iraqi Security Forces

In an operation on January 7, members of the 6th Iraqi army division captured the leader of a cell responsible for kidnappings, murder, IED attacks, and car bombings.

Near Baqubah, soldiers of the 5th Iraqi army killed three insurgents during an operation to capture a cell leader. The Iraqi patrol came under fire from men exiting a mosque. They returned fire, killing three.

The 1st Iraqi army division assumed tactical command of the 2nd Brigade on January 9. The brigade will operate within Fallujah:

“We will be loyal soldiers to defend our precious country and to implement security and stability,” said Brig. Gen. Khalid Juad Khadum, the commanding general of 2nd Brigade. “And this will hit the pages of history in godly words, and we promise Allah that we will take care of this handover and to protect it, God willing, until the last drop of our blood, and Allah is a witness of what we say.”

The Iraqi police enlisted 301 recruits during a recent recruiting drive in Fallujah and Habbaniyah. The new recruits will undergo six-week basic training in Jordan. Another 400 were enlisted during a recruiting drive in Ramadi. The situation was far different last year:

One year ago a murderous intimidation campaign prevented local Iraqis from enlisting in Ramadi. Recruiting numbers for police were insignificant. More than 1,000 enlisted in the police force last month. Over 800 are expected to enlist in Anbar Province this month.

“The local tribes stood up to the intimidation campaign and are taking back their city from the terrorists,” said the Coalition spokesman in Ramadi Marine Maj. Riccoh Player.

“Hundreds of Iraqi Police are holding areas cleared by Iraqi and American forces in recent operation in the worst neighborhoods of Ramadi,” said Player.

“Building and manning a police station in Ramadi is what progress looks like in a counterinsurgency.”

Based on tips from Iraqi civilians, the Iraqi national police, with Coalition forces, detained ten and uncovered several weapons caches during an operation in Baghdad:

The operation was the result of tips from local citizens of possible insurgents and weapons caches in the neighborhood.

The national police seized three large weapons caches containing one rifle fitted with a silencer, one machine gun, one sniper rifle, assorted small arms ammunition and bomb-making materials.

In Fallujah, Iraqi police and army troops captured 47 insurgents during Operation Ar Bead. The operation was planned and executed by Iraqi troops, who have tamed the once restless city:

“The district police chief – this was his idea,” said Lt. Col. Race Roberson, the RCT-5 police implementation officer. “It was (an Iraqi Security Forces) operation; they were the owners of it.”

”The police are a strong force, and they will go anywhere at anytime in the city of Fallujah,” Roberson said.

The Iraqi army has begun a major operation in Baghdad. Thirty terrorists were reported killed on the first day, including five from Sudan.

The 2nd Division of the Iraq army is now operating independently of Coalition forces.

In Qasaiba, soldiers of the 5th Iraqi Army Division captured the leader of an insurgent cell operating in the area:

The insurgent cell leader is suspected of limiting the travel of Iraqi civilians in the area through intimidation and violent criminal activities. It is also believed the cell leader coordinates and conducts kidnapping, torture and murders of Iraqi civilians and security forces in the area.

On January 10, Iraqi soldiers rescued a kidnapping victim:

Working on a tip, Iraqi troops from the 1st Battalion, 2nd Brigade, 9th Iraqi Army Division (Mechanized) searched for the kidnapping victim’s vehicle. They discovered it on a farm. Upon conducting a cordon and search of the farm, the soldiers found the kidnapped Iraqi in a farmhouse unharmed, with his hands tied.

Iraqi Special Security Forces captured two leaders of an insurgent cell during an operation in Al Doura. The cell is responsible for car bombings against civilians in Sadr City and IED attacks against Iraqi security forces.

In Tal Afar, Iraqi police killed four insurgents after they came under attack while on patrol. A later search of the area found a weapons cache consisting of 12 RPGs and two mortar shells.

Iraqi army special forces captured 19 during an operation targeting the leader of an insurgent cell responsible for attacks against Iraqi civilians and Coalition forces.

During two operations in Fallujah, Iraqi soldiers captured six members of al Qaeda. The men are suspected of involvement with IED attacks against Coalition troops and weapons trafficking.

Iraqi security forces joined Marines and U.S. soldiers in conducting a successful operation to clean up Ramadi:

Iraqi Army, police and Coalition forces seized hundreds of weapons and explosives during the operation, including three mortar systems, 101 mortar rounds, 90 pounds of explosives, eight rocket-propelled grenade launchers, 47 AK-47s, five Dragonov sniper rifles, 26 grenades, 26 mines, 34 artillery rounds, 12 rockets and other items used to attack Ramadi’s security forces and civilians.

During the operation 44 enemy combatants were killed and 172 suspected insurgents were detained.

The Iraqi army captured a high-level insurgent leader during a raid in Hajjan:

The suspect is allegedly an experienced IED builder and an illegal armed group member. He was believed to be training other illegal armed group members how to construct and employ IEDs.

Prime Minister al-Maliki has finally been convinced to drop his protection of the Mahdi army. The move came after U.S. officials convinced al-Maliki that the militia was infiltrated by Shiite death squads. In related news, Sadr’s political block is ending its two month boycott of parliament.

Two tips led Iraqi national police to a kidnapping victim and a sizeable weapons cache in Baghdad:

“This raid was planned and executed entirely by the Iraqi national police,” said Maj. Blaine Wales, the team chief for the 1st Battalion, 7th Brigade, 2nd Iraqi National Police Transition Team.

The weapons cache consisted of 31 mortar and artillery rounds, 12 rolls of detonation cord, one can of ball bearings, three blocks of C4 explosive, 100 blasting caps and fuses, two completed improvised explosive devices, multiple batteries of all types, four handheld radios, nine cellular phones and seven completed electronic circuit boards similar to those found in roadside bombs.

In eastern Baghdad, an Iraqi patrol found an IED before it could be detonated.

In Baghdad, an Iraqi army patrol successfully fought its way out of an ambush:

While conducting a routine patrol in Baghdad’s Fahhama neighborhood, an element of the 1st Battalion, 1st Brigade, 6th Iraqi Army was ambushed by a group of insurgents armed with pistols and AK-47s. The patrol immediately returned fire on the men attacking them.

Two insurgents were killed and four others wounded in the fire fight.

Tips from citizens led Iraqi police to two large weapons caches:

The first cache included fifteen 9mm TNT rounds, a dozen 90mm Composition A3 rounds, five 155mm High Explosive rounds, four artillery fuses, six 20mm rockets, and nine RPG rounds among other items. The second cache included two 105mm rounds rigged as improvised explosive devices.

Iraqi Police captured the leader of al Qaeda in Iraq’s cell in Samarra during an operation on January 18.

Iraqi forces captured two high-level insurgent commanders in separate raids:

Special Iraqi army forces, with coalition advisors, captured a high-level terrorist leader today during operations in eastern Baghdad, military officials said. The suspect is allegedly affiliated with Abu Dura and other Baghdad death squad commanders, and is responsible for assassinating numerous Iraqi security forces members and government officials. Military officials said he has also organized kidnappings, torture and murder of Iraqi civilians.

During operations in Samarra yesterday, Iraqi police forces with coalition advisors captured the suspected leader of several al Qaeda in Iraq terror cells. The suspect is responsible for directing several IED and small arms attacks against Iraqi security forces, coalition forces and Iraqi civilians. During the operation, combined forces captured an additional insurgent and confiscated IED components, assault rifles and ammunition.

In Morocco, security forces have disrupted a cell responsible for recruiting terrorists to fight in Iraq:

Moroccan security forces have dismantled a radical cell recruiting volunteers to fight in Iraq and arrested 26 people, the government said on Thursday.

In Tal Afar, Iraq forces discovered a tunnel leading below a house where they found a weapons cache consisting of 200 pounds of explosives, more than 125 rockets, and 2,500 rounds of ammunition.

Over at the Department of Defense website, a map of Iraq shows the progress made by Iraq’s army over the last year. “Green areas” indicate areas under control of Iraqi forces. The “green areas” increase significantly as the year progresses. Check it out.

Security

Operations

Raids across Iraq targeting al Qaeda resulted in the capture of 25 suspected terrorists.

Nine terrorists were killed in a series of raids in Baghdad over the weekend:

Nine terrorists, including an al-Qaeda leader, were killed during raids conducted by coalition forces in Baghdad today and yesterday. Also, one terrorist was wounded, and three were detained during the raids.

A known al-Qaeda weapons dealer was among those killed during today's Baghdad raid, according to officials. Another terrorist was wounded in the action, while two more were detained. The wounded terrorist was provided first aid and transported to a nearby medical facility. Coalition forces had targeted the weapons dealer, whose body was identified by his wife.

In other news, coalition troops killed six terrorists and detained one suspect during a fierce morning firefight in Baghdad yesterday, officials reported.

Intelligence reports indicated the targeted location was used as a possible al Qaeda in Iraq safe house for terrorists to conduct operational planning.

Another 90 al Qaeda terrorists were killed by American and Iraqi forces during a ten-day operation near Baghdad. A patrol consisting of troops from the 1st Cavalry Division uncovered seven weapons caches in the village of Arab Salman Salman:

…uncovered the caches, which included 51 rocket-propelled grenade rounds; 11 RPG launchers; two assault rifles with 13,000 rounds of ammunition; six 57mm rockets; eight plastic explosives; two 120mm artillery shells; two 137mm missiles; 225 pounds of explosives; and other IED-making materials.

Iraqi and Coalition troops discovered a weapons cache in Yusufiyah consisting of materials used in the manufacture of IEDs:

The cache, which contained a variety of improvised explosive device making items and weapons included six 120mm mortar rounds, a directional charge, five rocket propelled grenade launchers, seven RPG charges, nine RPG rockets, 150 small metal cylinders filled with plastic explosives, 1000 7.62mm rounds, 200 ft. of detonation cord, seven hand grenade fuses, five hand grenade shells, five long-range antennae, 22 transformers, four cordless phones, two cordless phone base stations, two cell phones, 12 cell phone cases with assorted parts and 12 60mm mortar round casings.

Twenty-eight suspected terrorists were captured during raids across Iraq which targeted the safe houses of foreign terrorists.

Over the past month, paratroopers from the 82nd Airborne have found more than 500 artillery rounds that could have been used to make IEDs or VBEIDs.

Reconstruction %26amp; Economy

If it were any other country, the reconstruction of Iraq would be a huge story. As of December 31, 2006, there are 658 projects underway at a cost of $2.67 billion, 3,026 projects have been completed at a cost of $7.11 billion, and 94 more projects are planned.

A $43 million upgrade to the Al Basrah oil terminal is expected to be completed by April. The upgrade includes an emergency shutdown system, control valves, metering system, and fire protection. The upgraded terminal will meet all international safety and metering standards.

Twenty hospitals throughout Iraq are currently undergoing $103 million in renovations.

A small water project was completed in Dahuk Province. The new water storage tank and pipeline serves more than 1,000 residents of Dahuk.

An $8.6 million renovation to the Samawah Railroad Maintenance Center has been completed. The Samawah site is one of two railway maintenance centers in Iraq, and employs more than 250 Iraqis.

Iraq’s power grid is now being monitored by a central control system, called SCADA:

“The main function of SCADA is to create and maintain a digital connection in order to check the provinces’ power loads and control them easily by connecting them to the central power distribution points,” Perry said.

The SCADA system includes input and output signal hardware, controller networks, and communications software.

There are 47 primary health-care centers under construction in northern Iraq. The first completed center recently opened in Salah Al Den Province:

More than 112,000 people in the Salah Al Den Province are receiving healthcare from the first completed Primary Healthcare Center (PHC) in the north.

Built by local construction companies with quality assurance managed by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, this $3.35 million dollar facility provides routine and initial emergency care to patients including X-ray, laboratories and dentistry. Medical supplies and laboratory equipment were included in the contract to make this facility complete and operational.

On January 15, three new schools were opened in Mushahidah: an elementary school for girls, a secondary school for girls, and an elementary school for boys:

“This is a great example for the projects in this area,” said Shiek Naif Moutlak, the chief of the city council. “We thank the coalition for all they have done and hope for other projects in the area to help the people.”

The Pentagon is helping fight unemployment in Iraq by reopening factories that were once owned by Saddam Hussein:

Under a new program, the U.S. Defense Department is already helping reopen factories that were owned by Saddam Hussein's government and abandoned by occupation authorities shortly after the 2003 U.S.-led invasion. The Pentagon may also start providing them with contracts to support U.S. troops.

One factory restarted operations in the past two weeks, and nine more are to open by the end of this month, adding some 11,000 Iraqis to employment rolls, a Pentagon official said Wednesday. The official spoke on condition of anonymity because the information had not been released yet.

The president’s speech this week put Iran on notice that the U.S. was going to work to prevent its interference in Iraq. Iraqi forces took the first step in confronting Iran when they raided Iran’s diplomatic mission in Irbil:

Iraqi officials said today that multinational forces detained as many as six Iranians in an overnight raid on Tehran's diplomatic mission in the northern city of Irbil just hours after President Bush gave details about his new military plan for Iraq. The forces stormed the Iranian mission at about 3 a.m., detaining the five staffers and confiscating computers and documents, two senior local Kurdish officials said, speaking on condition of anonymity because of the sensitivity of the information. Irbil is a city in the Kurdish-controlled north, 220 miles from Baghdad.

Japan is preparing to loan Iraq $3.5 billion for reconstruction. In the city of Al Qosh, Medics from the 1st Cavalry Division treated more than 80 people during a humanitarian mission to the city:

During the mission, one female physician’s assistant and one female pediatrician medically examined over 80 people; 65 percent children, and 35 percent women.

Three dozen soccer balls were distributed to the children of the town, courtesy of a donation from a radio station in the United States, as well as clothing, toys, shoes, and school supplies.

If the media is not liberal then why are they not reporting the progress in Iraq?
I never waste my time reading a question longer than a few paragraphs.

Most of the media is liberal. Interestingly, when you go overseas, you will sometimes be surprised at the non-biased nature of the publicationsd. The Manila Times is a great newspaper, very informative.
Reply:If you are the liberal media, how can you successfully spread propaganda if you give both sides a fair hearing?
Reply:Preparing to, preparing to, preparing to. Spam, pure and simple. I guess what I see elsewhere is all lies and the people of Iraq and our soldiers are not really getting blown-up all over the place in Iraq.
Reply:Thank you. I would love to see you working for one of the big networks. We need truth.
Reply:I think it is because explosions tend to be more exciting than three dozen soccer ball...not sure, but I would venture to guess that exploding terrorists in Illinois would probably be the lead story in Chicago, even on a day in which a million soccer balls were given a way
Reply:OMG they don't want to hear this! Not to mention that the media doesn't report the hundreds of insurgent that are killed!
Reply:Great source. LOL. Bill Crawford's job with the right-wing National Review is to write "Good News" articles about Iraq. That's all he does.
Reply:Funny they do report the part in which the insurgent violence has escalated immensely and that the death tolls are up. You seemed to miss that part, I just wanted to point it out to you. Thanks for the stupid spam question.

My prom dress is a light cream color what shoes and jewlery should i wear?

the fabric on my dress is kind of like a silk material.

i was thinking a color that would stick out for my shoes like a royal

blue or red... but im not sure.

HELP

My prom dress is a light cream color what shoes and jewlery should i wear?
i would try maybe a marroon or garnet type of color. I think that would look very pretty.
Reply:Its hard to judge without seeing the dress itself. If you want to stay on the safe side, I would stick with shoes the same color as the dress. Otherwise maybe go with a wild leopard print shoe or something! If you want shoes that stick out just make sure you keep close to the same color scheme as the dress. Golds, browns, that kind of thing because cream is a hard color to do the whole "wow" factor with. As far as jewelry i would think any warm color would look good. I'm partial to gold because I think it has that goddess-like appeal but you could also choose to do your jewelry in a funky, crazy color like lime green or bright pink!
Reply:a fab colour would be gold, is would look amazing. red and blue will clash and look weird, but i have the most amazing t-bar gold stillettos. some gold earrings and a gold bracelet, maybe a gold clutch bag would look great. it would be sohisticated.

what maybe also a try is black shoes and bag, with gold jewelry. Dont wear a necklace aswell, it could look too overdone and crowded.yellow and silver may look a bit weird, so try and avoid those!. have fun!
Reply:lavender shoes, handbag, %26amp; pearls!
Reply:i agree a maroon color would contrast well with light cream.
Reply:try fancy gold shoes and jewerly
Reply:Yellow...it's the biggest color this spring!! And some sort of gold jewelry.
Reply:i think you should wear silver jewellery ... but i dont know on the shoes though hmmm ....

How to get this bad wax off of my boot?

I have a pair o snow boots and the boot does not have a hard shell on it or any hard material its kind of like a soft boot with a latex kind of material. (of course it isn't latex but it feels like it and I'm not sure of the real material) I sprayed some stuff on it that kept water out and it works great but after a few days my boots got so dirty! The dirt is like stuck to the boot. The stuff I put on is like wax now and my boot is covered in dirty black wax. How do I get it off?? I've tried the regular shoe cleaners and even nail polish! What can I use that will work? Please tell me!

How to get this bad wax off of my boot?
Try an iron and a paper bag. Put the paper bag over the wax and move the warm iron over the bag. The wax will absorb into the bag.

Help please!

We have a 15 month old black lab. He is chewing 24/7 $1500 damage so far. How do we stop the chewing?
Before getting rid of the dog, you need to think about what that would be teaching your children. 1. that pets are disposable. 2. that if a loved one doesn't behave, you get rid of them.

These are very serious lessons, and will make a difference in your children's future decisions, including making a go of marriage, or getting rid of the problem maker, etc.

Dogs chew because:

*They are bored and want to play.

Without you there, life for your dog just isn't too entertaining. So they make do with your stuff, and you aren't there to correct them. A dog does not differentiate between a remote control and a chew toy. Both are chew toys to them. What they do know is that you react in an unpleasant manner when it's the remote control and remain calm when they goes for the chew toy. So, naturally, they'll wait until you're gone before tasting the forbidden fruit!

*They have a lot of energy and it needs to go somewhere!

Exercise is very important for all dogs. Certain breeds need more than others depending on the characteristics of that breed. Take time to exercise your dog frequently. Use this as quality time between the two of you. Have family members share in the responsibility. Others have used this as their exercise time as well, and have steady walking routines with their dogs as a personal weight management tool.

*They are experiencing Separation Anxiety.

Each day when you come home, you make a mental record of the destruction...today they chewed the remote control into a gnarled piece of plastic, and there's a bite out of your slippers. And the list just keeps getting longer and longer. Why is your normally happy and obedient dog pulling this Jekyll-and-Hyde routine?

Separation anxiety is another serious cause behind chewing. Highly dependant dogs may feel abandoned when their owners are away, and may chew when alone to relieve anxiety and stress. Chew marks near doors indicate "barrier frustration," in which the dog is trying to break through the barrier to find his way to you. Dogs that chew as a result of separation anxiety often show other signs of this condition. They may follow you from room to room, shadowing you excessively. greet you in an over-exuberant way when you return after being gone, and sometimes vocalize, or will nonstop howl, bark, chew destructively, and may even urinate or defecate when separated from you. Some dogs with separation anxiety panic when they are unable to follow their owners around from room to room. If you suspect separation anxiety to be the cause of your dog's problem, contact your local veterinarian. You may need to institute an independence program to modify the behavior.

Before you leave, try adding your scent into your dog's toys. Rub the bone or toys between your hands and give it to your pup as you are leaving. Be sure and exercise your puppy to help relieve boredom and burn off energy - two factors that lead to destructive chewing. Make your exit of low importance key to help avoid separation anxiety.

Using a crate for training can be a great asset at this stage of the game.

Giving your puppy free run of the house while you are away is an invitation for destructive chewing by your puppy. Remember, just like a baby, puppies learn about the world through their mouths, and your house is the classroom.

Keep them in the area you puppy-proof. If they are allowed out of the area, you should be there to supervise them directly.

Always know where your puppy is, and what they are doing....Always!

Give your puppy plenty of chew toys. The focus of your puppies chewing behavior should be directed toward these items you select. There are many items to choose from, including Gumabone and Nylabone-type products. Rawhide bones, especially high quality varieties satisfy more than just chewing urges. There are also many safe, long-lasting chew toys that are made especially for teething puppies that will keep them occupied and content for hours. Examples would be knotted rawhide, compressed rawhide and durable rubber teething products ie: Kong toys, that satisfy your puppy's need for chewing and add gum stimulation. The items shouldn't be similar things you don't want your puppy to chew. Remember, your puppy can't tell the difference between your new shoes and an old pair.

Be thorough, consistent and correct chewing of inappropriate objects.

For this to work, you must catch your puppy in the act. If you catch your puppy chewing on "bad" items remove the item immediately and give them a "good"chew toy. When the puppy takes the good toy, praise them lavishly for doing so.

Always reinforce desired behavior with praise.

Is there anything else I can do?

You can also teach the puppy to ignore "bad" items. if they are always chewing the wrong things. You will need to set aside some quality time here. Place "bad" objects on the floor along with your puppies "good" toys and then act like you are not watching or paying attention.

At the precise moment they start to mouth one of the "bad"items, in a stern voice, correct the with a firm 'No!' and point out the correct "good" item. Soon enough they will learn they can only have the "good" items when you are present.

After this has been accomplished, you will need to leave the area for short periods of time, a good starting number would be one to two minutes. When you suddenly appear from nowhere, see what they are playing with, and you may catch them red-handed. The is the only time corrective action should be taken. Correct the puppy again, and give them a "good" item, praising when it is accepted. If your puppy continues to chew on "bad" items while you are away, further sessions like this may be needed, or else you will have to crate or confine your puppy when you are away. When successful, you will have removed a major stumbling block in developing a healthy relationship between you and your puppy.

If needed, you can spray or treat the '"bad" items with a chew deterrent like Grannick's Bitter Apple or Chew Stop that will give it a very bad taste. In the case of furniture, you can rub bath soap on the legs of the furniture as a deterrent.

Have a battery of 15-20 toys at the ready. Only give your dog 5 toys at a time, and rotate the others in and out on a daily basis, or every other day. This keeps the interest in the toys, and the dogs sees something new every so often.

Consider crate training, baby gates, etc. combined with lots of exercise (crate never used for punishment)
Reply:If you haven't already please watch the dog whisperer with Cesar Milan. I had the exact same problem with my golden retriever mix. He just had sooooooo much energy and was starting to become destructive. But on one of the shows Cesar talked about dogs needs. How they need 3 things.

1.Exercise

2.Discipline

3.Affection

So now we walk him twice a day. an hour each time and he is great! I highly recommend you watch the Dog Wisperer on the National geographic channel. You wont be sorry!
Reply:He is young he might just we teething you could talk to your vet about a safe muzzle. Also try a little traing at/with a experienced trainer.
Reply:dog training is the best solution to your problem.
Reply:well, you ofcourse know that he is teething and can't help chewing. try spending more time with him, and whenever he chews disipline him lightly, like tapping his nose. but if u spend more time with him, you can make him get used to chewing on one thing. do not take a puppy away from your children.... it takes away a special love that they have to grow.
Reply:That's the down side to a lab. He will NEVER stop chewing things. I had to lace the chain Link fence with barb wire to keep them from chewing through the gate. Most dog stop that when they about 1 year old but a lab never does.
Reply:Here is the question I always ask when people ask me the question you have posted here. Do you walk your dog at least 30 minutes everyday? This right here is going to win you a good percentage of this battle. If walking him alone does not help to calm him down, you can go to a petshop or online and get him a doggie backpack. Put some bottles of water in it for added weight. Put this on him when you go for your walks. Also, digging and chewing plants. When he is outside doing this activity, is there anyone out there watching him? Is anyone out there trying to correct this habit? If not, then the only thing you can do is get outside when he is out there and be with him. Walk around with him, or sit and watch him. The second you see him starting to dig/chew, go to him and nudge him slightly in the shoulder area and do a 'tsk' sound. Keep doing this each and everytime he does this behavior. He is doing it ONLY because he is bored. Yes, that's right. He's not getting enough exercise/walking. Dogs are natural walkers. This comes down through their ancestery of having to hunt for their food. They may have walked for miles each day before finding anything to eat. You dog needs something to do. You could even go outside with him and play hide-go-seek with a ball. Start with the ball out in the open telling him to get it, then gradually begin to hide it. You can even put a treat in his kong and do the samething with it. But please, get that boy out and walk him 30 mins a day. He should not be pulling, but walking by your side or behind you. You must be his "pack leader". If he is not obedience trained, get him out there to a class. You will see a big difference and love him for it. You wanted this dog, it is your responsibilty to take care of him and provide his needs. Letting him outside to play/chew/dig does not take the place of his 30 minute walk. Also, do not feed him before the walk. Walking him is his way of working for his food, which again, he would do if he were a wild dog in a "pack". Good luck and I hope you give this an honest try. It's not his fault he is digging/chewing. Thank you.
Reply:Crate him

Build a pen OUTSIDE for him

Confine him to ONLY places where he can't destroy things.

Give him enough CHEW toys/bones.

Exercise him
Reply:I have the same problem with my dog. She chews everything she can get her mouth around. I asked our vet what I could do, cause I too had tried everything, but he said that she will just have to outgrow it. He said it could take until she was 2-2 1/2 years old for her to fully mature and quit chewing. He suggested we put her in a large outdoor kennel where she can only chew on her toys, bones, etc., and to let her out only when she can be supervised. Basically just separate her from stuff she shouldn't chew on. We took his advise, built a large kennel over 400 sq ft, and let her out to run loose in the backyard for about 2 hours every day, plus her 30 min morning walk. This way she has her own space where she can't chew on stuff she shouldn't and she gets enough exercise and socialization to keep her healthy and active. I hope this helps cause I would hate to see you get rid of your dog over something he will out grow in a few more months.
Reply:Same here with me I had a chiuhaha and her problem was peeing everywhere and chewing alot of stuff, What we did was put an item we wore on our shoes and things on the floor so she wouldnt chew them up, but eventually we HADto get rid of her there was nothing else we could do. I hope you find a cure! It breaks everyones heart to lose a dog :(
Reply:What Fawnice said is right. I just want to add that you can give him ice cubes and freeze wet towels for him to chew on. The cold will numb his aching gums and help with the pain. Make sure that when you are exercising him (I would recommend about an hour walk 2-3 times a day) that you aren't doing it on pavement because Labs being a large breed can develop CHD from the hard surface. At 15 months you only have about 7 more months and he should be settling down. Try to be patient. Get a book about raising Labs (there are tons, some of which I have since I am getting a Lab). Best of luck
Reply:At 15 mos., your dog is not teething. My 5 month Ridgie has all his adult teeth. It sounds like your dog is just bored and has pent up energy. And given a lab - those are one of the most high-energy dogs around.

It sounds like you don't crate him. While the "unread" folks think it's mean, it's really just catering to the dog's natural denning instinct. And that's probably why he has the opportunity to chew things you don't want him to - he's not supervised. An overly supervised dog actually respects its owners more because it is told the rules as it comes across them. It doesn't have to guess or get random punishments.

Next is exercise. That's a dog's #1 need. Put it on a treadmill if you can't take the time out of your day (and if you can't, why did you get a lab in the first place???!?!!!!)

Shoes - they smell like his family! He loves his family! And his family seems to neglect him! Hence the chewing of shoes. Keep your shoes up high and out of reach.

I'm a little upset that maybe you made a poor choice in a dog and will contribute yet another dog to the local shelter, all of which could have been avoided if you chose the correct dog for your lifestyle and trained it properly. Dogs sent to a shelter have serious abandonment issues with their new families.
Reply:Buy him some rawhide chews.
Reply:Well to start with, go to the store and get this stuff to spray on whatever he is chewing, it makes it taste bitter, sour or hot. He will hate it. Every brand has a different name but theone I bought was called "shoo" and "no chew". Worked wonders!

Next, talk to a trainer, behaviorist or vet.

And finally, find a constructive way to exert his energy. Labs are extremely high strung; he needs something to wear him out so he loses the energy to chew on things he is not supposed to. Most labs are wild until they are 2 or 3 yeras old, then they lose most of their puppy energy. But you did choose a high maintenance breed. Labs were bred for hunting and retrieving, thus bred with a high energy flow!
Reply:had one and mine did not out grow it i had to get rid of her.
Reply:Have you talked to a professional? It seems like a natural step before giving him away- or worse- just letting him go. He will outgrow it, but he needs your help.

CRATE HIM. It's not mean, puppies need it. It's a safe space for them. Too much space overwhelms them. Puppies chew when they are anxious and/or bored. Does he get enough exercise? This doesn't mean being left alone in the yard. You need to run around with him or walk him on a leash. Take him to a dog run where he can play with other dogs.

Talk to your vet, a trainer or read. He will outgrow it, but he needs your help. It's a big commitment, but you made it when you got him. Hang in there. He will give you more love and joy than you can imagine.
Reply:Is he exercised enough? Walked EVERY day? He's a puppy, and puppies have a TON of energy. I bet he's bored and has a lot of pent up energy. He should really be walked every morning and night.
Reply:First, I've always felt dogs are outside animals. If you keep them outside there are probably fewer things they can damage. Puppies chew because they're board (I think I spelled that wrong?). If you give them enough attention and something else to do (chew toys) they will usually stop chewing on the things that you don't want them to chew on. Puppies eventually grow out of the chewing. As a last resort, when my dogs were puppies, I would put Tabasco Sauce on anything I didn't want them to chew. One lick and they stayed away from whatever it was.
Reply:Have his teeth pulled and put him on a soft dogfood diet such as Ol' Roy from Walmart...the wet stuff in the can is great and cheap for dogs with no teeth.
