Airport security inspected my luggage and ruined my boots that were in my suitcase, what do I do?

I had a pair of black high heel wedge boots in my suitcase that I checked at the airport before my flight. When I got to my destination and opened the suitcase that I checked, I found an inspection notice and then I noticed both sides of both heels on my boots with big scratches. The black material of the heels are missing and even black polish would not repair these scratches because they are deep. I would be embarrassed to wear the boots in this current condition. They were in perfect condition when I packed them. I had these boots in shoe protector pockets of my suitcase and other then the boots I only had clothes in the suitcase, so there's no way these boots could have been damaged in this way unless some one intentionally did this. Just because they put an inspection notice in my suitcase does not give them the right to damage my property. If they were concerned about my boots couldn't they put them in an x-ray machine? What do I do about this?

Call the airport customer service or security manager and file a complaint demanding they reimburse you. I don't know how far you'll get since you won't be able to prove they did the damage, but you can try, good luck.
Reply:yeah I'd sue them for sure
Reply:you could sue them
Reply:You only have a certain amount of time to turn it in to Baggage Claim at your airport. Go to the luggage area and bring the case and the shoes and show them to the airline (in the luggage area you'll see a sign for that airlines baggage department). But you may only have 24 hours. You'll need your claim check as well.
Reply:Complain to the Airline Company you used Customer service .
