I cant get over how silly this whole thing is;?

My friend is a devout Christian that is very serious about her faith, VERY serious, no sex before marriage, no living in sin, life revolves around her Church and the whole the world is 6 thousand years old, and listens to Christian rock only etc, doesnt drink at all etc. All very restrictive and boring, and yet strangely appealing and something I respect with all my heart. (I am somewhat more liberal and please do not try to start on me, thats not the question!!).

Problem - she has a private registration plate and literally hundreds of pairs of shoes and bags etc and loves being a material girl. She may say she repents (I guess) but really how can one repent but not actually change their actions at all. She has shopped until she drops for years and will not change.

Surely (BY HER OWN STANDARDS) she is going to hell for being wordly? Christians - live in the world - not apart of the world. no?

Is it ok to pick and choose what bits she wants?

Or is she another hypocrite?

I cant get over how silly this whole thing is;?
I suppose there are worse vices than shoes. Still, it troubles me that she doesn't put out. I'd consider trading up unless she's rich. First of all you're not getting benefits and secondly, she's barking mad. The madness may be relatively benign now but it's sure to get worse over time.
Reply:Sounds like she is struggling with temptation. No, she's not going to hell just because she likes to shop. But if it becomes addictive, she might have a problem.

I am a Christian, and a woman. I admit I love shoes and purses, but it does not replace the love I have for my Savior.

Jesus sees the heart, and He knows her hearts intent, so don't be so quick to judge her.
Reply:just keep praying
Reply:It's OK to be a Material Girl as long as she does not make it her "god"
Reply:LOL -- she isn't perfect! You know why? Because only Jesus was perfect. We all have our faults. The best thing we can do is try to be as perfect as we can be. But God knows that we're human. God knows that we can't be 100% good 100% of the time. Sure, it's something she needs to work on. But she's not going to hell for that. I have a friend who is the same way. But this friend is the most devout Christian and the most generous person there is. She literally donates thousands of dollars a year to those in need. Jesus chose some pretty seedy people to be his disciples. But he saw good in them, and knew that their hearts were true. She's not a hypocrite. She's just human. God bless her...
Reply:Did I miss something? Is she stealing her shoes and bags? Or does she pay for them by working and earning money?

Exactly how is she a hypocrite? I'm not seeing it. And why do you care if you don't believe in it anyway? It sounds like you are trying to find a way to make fun of your friend, which means you're not a very good friend.
Reply:You are being petty.

If it bothers you so much show her this post and see what she has to say.
Reply:yes,

She is a hypocrite....we all are. Each of us is a hypocrite. But what you have described here does not sound like sin to me. She just likes shoes...LOL

edit:

Why is hypocracy a sticking point for you?

We have all lied. We have all said "this" and done "that."

None of us are 100% Grade "A" pure.

edit2:

you are a mess...lol....God bless you
Reply:I dont understand what she does wrong. She likes cloths. But is she choosing cloths over faith.
Reply:Doesn't sound to me like she's going to hell (although only God truly knows her heart). It sounds like her fruits are good.
Reply:are you a hypocrite for trying to say that she is as much of a sinner as you? how easy it is for us as humans to condemn one anothers decisions. take it from me, it is harder to judge your own actions, but more benificial to you and your friends.
Reply:you are not the judge thank God... if she converts and received His spirit then she is ok...consider doing this yourself
Reply:What sin is she supposed to be committing. If she is not neglicting God or his commandments, than she is not doing anything wrong.

Be careful what you say, she may ask a question and start listing your shortfalls as she sees them.
Reply:sound like from what you are saying, that she is indeed being a hypocrite.

I would say she is going to hell for doing what she does, but she is being a hypocrite by its definition.
Reply:You're supposed to help others...if she has enough money to buy all that stuff and isn't giving it to people that need food and shelter etc then she is being greedy.

So, I would say it's a bit hypocritical....but we all have our moments.
Reply:The Bible does not say: Thou shall have no clothes, purses or a private registration plate. And Christians are not condemned to hell for having material possessions. There is only a problem if the possessions start taking replacing God in her heart.
Reply:Just ask her whether she thinks it's okay to indulge her greed to such an extent, if she really is such a serious Christian. If there's anything Jesus was NOT, it's greedy.
Reply:it's an addiction. some women shop as therapy and owning many things makes up for the lack of whatever in her life.

when she gets married and starts having s'ex...i think her shoe addiction will become a thing of the past...
Reply:What you have described sounds more like a shopping addiction than a problem with her faith. Talk to her about it, and encourage her to get help--from an actual therapist, not clergy.

Shopping addiction is a serious condition, and if it isn't treated, the addict can (and usually does) end up with debts they cannot pay and often turn to shoplifting and identity theft to satisfy their addiction.
Reply:You are being the hypocrite. You're saying, sin a little, might as well sin a lot !! -- A terrible thing, especially since you no longer can see what you are saying.

I admire her. Remember, you can't decide that the bad part of person is the real person. I mean you have, but you shouldn't.
Reply:we all have are own battles
Reply:You're pointing out her flaws as if it is YOUR responsiblitiy to do so and you are assuming she will go to hell for this.

Excuse me, but WHO'S the hypocrite here?
