How do you put a limt on your shopping?

Like most women I am addicted to shopping [shoes, bags, clothes, accessories]. I never know when is it too much, unfortunately! There are times when I decide to save an amount for an expensive designer bag/dress and suddenly one fine day I am like.. hell with it and I go and spend it all on regular shopping for clothes and bags. And the designer bag/dress never comes :-(. Maybe many people can relate to this. How do you limit yourself when shopping? Is there an amount that you all fix per month towards it? If so, what percent of the monthly income should be spared for shopping needs only? I've heard many people put themselves in debts to buy designer materials, which sounds foolish to me. So, how do you save towards buying expensive designer stuff? Thanks for all yours answers.

How do you put a limt on your shopping?
I use a debit card. I also budget what I am going to spend. It is tough but it is better than having high credit card balance.
Reply:A limit on shopping is like going on a diet but once you get over the shock you get used to it when i want a new rocawear/babyphat/coach/ect. bag i keep that pic mentally or post that pic in my room and look 2 the adorableness and say id have this bag and look soo cute init sometimes i cant get over getting less for alot of$$$$$$
Reply:To be honest I don't see what the big deal is in buying designer products, Chanel will sell handbags for $3000, it's just a bag with a logo on it!!! Personally I'd like to buy a handbag and have money left over to put the damn thing in!!!

But if you want to get designer stuff for cheap try looking in op-shops or markets or even go to factory outlets where they sell last season stuff for half the price. And I find that they have their biggest sales in the mid-year. If you want to save more money you should try to stop buying lunch, or your morning coffee and magazines you'll be pretty surprised at how much money goes into that sort of stuff! Good Luck! I hope I helped.
Reply:Put away your credit card
Reply:I try not to use my credit card unless its worth it and its something that I was going to purchase in the long run (for example I needed a new TV and was saving for one cost of $1200...it happened to go on sale and was only $750...I didn't have all the cash, but couldn't pass up a savings of $450 so I used my credit card). Other times, I will shop with cash. This limits your spending because you can only spend what you have and you can physically see the cash (I know a debit card is taking from what you have but trust me, cash is better). As for people going into debt...its very true. Most people forget (for just a moment in time) that you must pay back a credit card...they get caught up in the moment of spending and tend to go over board. As for saving to buy expensive designer stuff, I have a savings account that isn't linked to my ATM card. I transfer money between accounts, and because I rarely go to a bank, the money is still there when I need it. Its worked out great so far for me...its how I paid for my car, and several LV bags.
Reply:Stop using credit card's, use cash. This way you have a limit and there's no alternative.
Reply:I don't use credit cards. If I use my check card, I give myself a preset limit, and leave the store/shopping center when I reach it. If I'm trying to save up for an item, or if I just don't have the money, I don't tempt myself and I avoid shopping. You can't spend money if you don't go to the mall. If I really wanted something, I would try to pick up extra shifts at work, or offer to babysit for my sister. I used to go shopping when I was bored, but now I try to read or work out or something that will keep me away from stores. Also, for designer items, I either try to find a similar item cheaper, or look on bluefly.com or overstock.com
Reply:well..stop buying sale items [you wouldnt buy if it wasnt that they were on sale] for anything..because even though theyre cheap they tend to add up..also buy only one item a month and as you get tired of an item..sell it off to purchase more..like also you might wanna try http://www.bagborroworsteal.com you can borrow designers bags for a month with a low-high cost..its an awesome site and might help you budget better...goodluck!!
Reply:Before I go shopping, I would decide how much I'm going to allow myself to spend. If you're set on buying a designer purse in the future then set money aside specifically for that purchase. If you keep doing that, you'll be able to buy that designer bag in no time.
Reply:I make sure I know how much is my limit to spend. Then make sure I don't go past it.

Or just use cash, and when you go shopping just bring the limit of cash you could.
Reply:I'm not materialistic, and I look at the big picture. I only buy when I literally need it. I refuse to spend any more money than necessary. Though, I might have to alter that last rule with my pregnant baby bulge. When I had more money (or thought I did), I refused to spend more than $20 for an article of clothing. I also had no qualms with buying off of sale/clearance racks at stores.

Now, I pretty much only do retail for groceries and underwear. I now do second hand only because it's more enviromental (it gives an extended life to a product that is already out there, it doesn't support factories, not only the pollutants it might put into the air, or the chemicals that might be on the fabric when purchased new, but also poor humanitarian practices), sociological (it helps others, as thrift store money goes to charities/good works) and economical. Why should I pay $50 or even $20 for a pair of jeans when I can get a pair at the thrift store, or even a rummage sale, for less than $5.

I also buy classic styles that will last awhile and I keep my clothes for as long as possible.

All of what I have is either second hand or bought new under $20 and have had for several years. The sweatshirt I'm currently wearing I've had since I was 15 or 16, Im now 29. The jammie pants I'm wearing, I got second hand and free. When I change to go walking and run some errands, I'm going to put on some jeans that I got for under $5 at a thrift store, and a long sleeved Tshirt that I got free at my church's clothing giveaway. (I went there on the off hand that I might find some maternity clothes and to look for my unborn child. Well, I came home with plenty of baby clothes at least.)

I don't care that I may not be wearing the trend of the second. Although my worn to death jeans which I got at a thrift store and wore holes in them, look similar to the distressed jeans that the mall stores charge $50+ for, but minus the chemicals used to created the bleached look.
Reply:I reccommend you use cash so you can actually see the money you're giving and then you may realise how much you do actually spend. Also take a fixed amount with you and take no more so you won't be tempted to over spend. Take around £20-£40 ($40-$60) but minimalise the amount each time to save more. Remember just because you have money doesn't mean you have to spend it all!
Reply:I had to take all my credit cards out of my wallet cause i was always tempted to online shop or just put stuff on my card when I was out now when I go shopping I try to just take cash out and use only that as far as getting designer stuff you might want to try going to Ross, TJ Max or Marshalls to get the name brand stuff you want but for less. I only let my self splurge on a designer bag or sunglasses or something expensive every six months usually I try to stay with the less expensive designer brand I really love Juicy Couture Bags and D%26amp;G sunglasses. As far as everyday shopping goes what I would do sometimes is every week when I got paid I would go and by myself one thing like a shirt or pair of shoes or pants but not expensive things just average I wouldnt spend more then $40 on it well anyways hope I helped and yah dont put yourself in debt its not worth it
Reply:I reccomend u don't write checks or use credit cards! Pay ALL your bills and half or fourth of whatever is left should go to shopping. And of course the other is just money to carry around. Maybe you can have the bank take a certain amount out each week so u won't be tempted and after a couple of months withdraw the money you need.

I have the same problem some times I mean it's just a regular pair of sunglasses but their Chanel, $300, and have a C on them!!!!!!!!!!! So uh duh I have to have them.
Reply:cut up the cards, only take out cash say 50 or 100, when its spent thats it.
Reply:I think the best answer to this is to just learn self-control. Set yourself a budget and write it out. Maybe you should get yourself a savings account where you put the money you want to save for more expensive goods - and don't have a debit card or check book connected to that account, then you can't "accidentally" spend it impulsively. I know it can seem really easy to just buy the things you want when you have the money, but you just need to start training your thoughts to remember that the longer you go without buying a bunch of little stuff, the more impressive that designer outfit is going to be. This is going to take practice - so don't beat yourself up too badly and don't give up!
Reply:don't bring your credit card. bring cash and that's all you can spend
Reply:i don`t, because i care little for designer things!!! i`m lucky, i can pretty much spend whatever amount i choose when shopping, but i don`t normally go for the name-brand stuff, it`s not my style!!!
