Unvegan shoes???

My friend said that the sole of the shoe, or like some part of the shoe is made from animals. And she is not talking about leather. The last thing she told me wasn't true, but she said that her mom told her this. So if I had a pair of shoes that were not leather are there any other animals somewhere in them? Are they ground up in any of the material?

any rubber sole shoe... such as canvas sneakers, flip flops, shoes made from man made materials, the label inside will tell you if it is man made materials
Reply:Rendered animal parts are part of the ingredients used in making some rubber products. Soles of some shoes and some vehicle tires (heck, they use animal parts as part of the pavement for roads too) would fall under that umbrella. I would guess it would be as important to a vegan to not have those rubber products as part of their shoes as it would to not have leather though. I don't see there being a difference.

For those who don't believe animal products are used in the process of making rubber here is a link to a pro-animal site that tells of many products rendered animal parts are used in. Stearic acid is used in making rubber and tires and it's source is rendered animal parts. The list is near the bottom of the page under "Disheartening Specifics".

even if it was true... just cause that teh price of shoes should be higher than what we pay now that r made wiht synthetic fibers....

Reply:Hun, you would have to move out into the woods and make and grow everything from scratch to get away from all animal byproducts. Sadly almost everything you see or tuch durring the day has some in it.

Sweetie, it's just a rumor. 95% of shoes are made from man made material...
