Question for veg*ns that DON'T wear leather for ethical reasons?

Would you wear a shoe that was made using no animal products, and it was made using 100% recyced materials, but it contained some recycled leather from old car seats?

For vegans, would you consider the shoe vegan or non-vegan?

Question for veg*ns that DON'T wear leather for ethical reasons?
Personally, I wouldn't wear them just because I hate leather shoes. They smell funny when they get wet and it's just kind of weird to have a dead animal on your feet. But I don't see anything unethical about shoes made from recycled leather. I'm not really sure if I would consider them vegan or not either; I guess that would be something for the person who is buying them to consider. Overall it would be a good idea to put recycled leather to good use.
Reply:I don't consider any animal products vegan. As for leather products specifically, let me just say I love the film "The Silence of the Lambs." It's fantastic. Buffalo Bill is terribly intriguing and horrifying, the way he dances around in human skin. In the same way that I wouldn't eat humans or wear their skin, I wouldn't eat animals or wear their skin.
Reply:no, its not vegan, because vegan means 100% animal free, and recycled leather is still leather.

ummm.... yes, i would buy it, because it's eco-friendly, and i'm very into saving the environment. even though it contains recycled leather, there is not much else you can do with it. so we might as well put it to use.

xD
Reply:I wouldn't wear it, nor would I call it vegan, but I do think its a good idea for people who wear leather as it would be better for the environment and the animals.
Reply:I'll stick to the vegan shoes I have but I won't quibble with another vegan that wears something like that. It's eco-friendly.

Judging somebody for something that petty is just too legalistic.
Reply:if the leather came from old car seats..hmm. well it would essentially be non-vegan since the leather is from a cow..

if there was absolutely no alternative to the shoe i was getting, a shoe with leather recycled from old cars is 100% better than leather made just for the shoes. though that theory is silly since i'd have to hope that there are plenty of other shoes i could get

i wouldnt wear em. but i wouldn't have a problem if someone else did
Reply:I don't think I would wear them because even though it's recycled it's still kind of saying that it's ok to wear leather. Would you eat left-over meat just because it might go to waste anyway? Probably not.
Reply:I would wear leather shoes. I don't eat meat because they are killed for that specific reason but I think that we should not waste any of the leftover products. We should make sure that if the animal was killed, the leftovers and being used to their full potential. Now of course I won't wear fur because the animals are killed just for the fur.
Reply:I would concider the shoe non-vegan. I am vegan, and vegan, as you probably know, means eating no animals, animal bi-products, or wearing anything from an animal. But if the shoe had no leather on it, it would be vegan. But just because of that recycled leather, I would say it would be non-vegan.

:)
Reply:Hmmm, good question.

Personally, I consider /myself/ vegan, not the food that I eat.

To put it another way it's the people that are vegan, and the food is "vegan-friendly" so for this reason, the shoes are neither vegan, nor non-vegan. They just exist.

It's like some vegetarians saying they eat fish/ chicken/ whatever, or the vegans who eat honey...

If the person's belief system/ morals/ ideals/ ethics/ environmental concerns coincide with doing something then it's cool for them to do it.

(what do other veg*ns think?)

Now, personally I wear fake leather products when I can as opposed to leather.

Even though petroleum/ plastics industry uses huge amount of resources, so does the tanning industry.

Obviously, recycled non-leather would be even better, but at a push, recycled leather ones might be acceptable to me too, if they looked cool enough!
Reply:i don't consider anything with animal parts, recycled or not, to be vegan. but that's just me...

i wouldn't buy the shoes in the first place. there are plenty of other shoes i could buy that are still eco-friendly and animal-free.
Reply:If I knew about it, no.. . the shoe would be non-vegan. But I wouldn't beat myself up over it, if it turned out to have a modicum of leather that I didn't know about when I bought it.
Reply:No, I would not.
Reply:No, it's non-vegan. Has to be completely animal free. It's eco-, but not vegan. This is my opinion.
Reply:I think using fake stuff is worse for the environment then recycled stuff.

Com'on... whoever gave me the thumbs down, 1st-ly :-(

2nd-ly, How can fake stuff be better for the environment then recycled stuff...?

Faux leather is made of acrylic, plastic %26amp; polyester!

Let him have his recycled shoes, PLEASE.
Reply:I wouldn't. I do however wear the fake leather shoes. even though it's still fake I feel weird wearing the faux leather.
Reply:i dont wear it cause its tacky and smells nasty
